Early Professional Trajectory
Born in 1956 in Boulogne-Billancourt, France, Agon graduated from HEC Paris in 1978. He immediately joined L’Oréal, where he spent his entire professional life. At age 24, he served as a product manager for the Consumer Products division. By 1981, he was appointed General Manager for Greece, followed by a return to France in 1985 to lead L'Oreal Paris. His early portfolio included the management of Studio Line, Plénitude, and Elsève, followed by his 1989 role as International Managing Director for Biotherm.

Agon’s regional experience expanded in 1994 when he managed L'Oréal Germany, eventually moving to head the Asia Zone in 1997. In 2001, he became President of L'Oréal USA, where he oversaw the launch of the Garnier Fructis line. He was appointed CEO of the L’Oreal Group in 2006, becoming its fifth leader. In 2011, he assumed the role of chairperson. His tenure as CEO concluded on 1 May 2021, when he was succeeded by Nicolas Hieronimus, though Agon remained as the company's chairperson.
Strategic Initiatives and Sustainability
Agon emphasized the concept of universalization, targeting one billion new customers globally. He oversaw the acquisition of numerous brands, including Essie Cosmetics, Urban Decay, and Cadum. Beyond growth, he instituted sustainability goals, targeting a 50% reduction in carbon emissions, water usage, and waste between 2005 and 2015. He also expanded manufacturing capabilities by opening new factories in Indonesia, Egypt, and Mexico.
