Isild Le Besco

Acting at eight years old in Francis Girod’s 1990 feature Lacenaire marked the start of a multifaceted career for the Paris-born filmmaker. Throughout three decades, she has navigated the French and international film industries as a performer, screenwriter, and director, earning recognition at the Venice Film Festival and receiving the Étoile d’or de la révélation féminine.

Early Roles and Artistic Background

Born in 1982 into a family where all five children eventually entered theatre and film, Le Besco began her professional life early. Following her debut in Lacenaire, she appeared in various productions including 1999’s Girls Can't Swim and 2000’s Sade. Her work during the early 2000s saw her collaborate with directors like Cédric Kahn and Antoine Santana, establishing a presence in both television and feature film projects.

Directing and Screenwriting

Le Besco expanded her creative output by moving behind the camera. Her directorial debut, Demi-tarif, earned several accolades, including the Special Jury Prize at the Angers European First Film Festival and the Grand Prix at the Crossing Europe Festival in Linz. She continued to write and direct projects such as 2007’s Charly and 2010’s Bas-fonds, while contributing to documentaries like Ponts de Sarajevo.

Legal Action and Allegations

By July 2024, Le Besco had filed a criminal complaint against director Benoît Jacquot, accusing him of rape during their relationship which commenced while she was a minor. Following this complaint, Jacquot was criminally charged with the rape of a minor on 4 July 2024. Additionally, Le Besco alleged that director Jacques Doillon attempted sexual blackmail during 2000 work sessions.
