Ruginienė entered electoral politics during the 2024 parliamentary cycle, running on the list for the Social Democratic Party of Lithuania (LSDP). Although not an official party member during the vote, she secured a seat in the Seimas and joined the LSDP in November 2024. Shortly thereafter, she was appointed Minister of Social Security and Labour in the cabinet of Gintautas Paluckas, a portfolio she held until the government's dissolution in August 2025.
