Ignacy Daszyński began his political career as a student agitator in the Austrian Empire, eventually serving as the first Prime Minister of the provisional government in Lublin in 1918. Early Radicalization
Born in Zbarazh in 1866, Daszyński encountered the realities of the working class while working in Drohobycz. His early education at Bartłomiej Nowodworski High School was punctuated by subversive actions alongside his brother Feliks. These experiences, coupled with his time at the Jagiellonian University, solidified his transition from a student activist to a dedicated organizer within the socialist movement.

In 1892, Daszyński co-founded the Polish Social Democratic Party, establishing a platform for Polish independence and socialist ideals. From 1897 until 1918, he served as a member of the Austrian Abgeordnetenhaus. Throughout this period, he utilized his role as editor-in-chief of the newspaper Naprzód to disseminate political commentary while using pseudonyms including Daszek, Żegota, and Ignis.
Statehood and Conflict
Following the collapse of the empires after World War I, Daszyński formed the Provisional People's Government in Lublin in 1918. As the Second Polish Republic established its institutions, he served as a member of the Sejm and held the position of deputy prime minister under Wincenty Witos from 1920 to 1921. Later, as Marshal of the Sejm between 1928 and 1930, he entered a notable standoff with Józef Piłsudski, refusing to convene the legislature while the chamber was occupied by a military escort.
