Education and Early Development
Nikoladze's formal training took place at the Hrekov Odesa Art School, followed by his studies at the Stroganov Moscow State Academy of Arts and Industry. His early efforts in the fine arts were recognized as early as 1897 when he received an award from the Society for the Encouragement of Fine Arts in Tiflis. These formative years established the technical foundation for his subsequent work in both sculpture and painting.

Beyond his creative work, Nikoladze dedicated significant time to pedagogy, serving as a university teacher at the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts. He attained the rank of professor in 1934 and was named a member of the USSR Academy of Arts in 1947. His influence extended through the academic instruction of subsequent generations of artists in the region.
Awards and Official Recognition
Throughout his career, Nikoladze received numerous state honors. He was named People's Illustrator of the Georgian SSR in 1946. His contributions were further recognized with the Order of the Badge of Honour in 1936, the Order of Lenin in 1946, and the Medal for Valiant Labour in the Great Patriotic War 1941–1945. He was twice awarded the Stalin Prize, first in 1946 and again in 1948.
Legacy and Museum Preservation
Following his death in Tbilisi in 1951, Nikoladze was buried at the Mtatsminda Pantheon. His commitment to the arts is preserved today through the Iakob Nikoladze House Museum, located in his home-studio in Kutaisi. This institution functions under the Georgian National Museum system, maintaining a collection of his sculptures, sketches, and historical documentation for public study.
