Heo Young-saeng

South Korean singer

Heo Young-saeng launched his professional music career on June 8, 2005, debuting as a member of the South Korean boy band SS501 with the album Warning. Since his initial entry into the pop industry, he has navigated a transition from idol-group vocalist to a versatile soloist, songwriter, and actor, balancing studio recordings with roles in musical theater.

Early Career and SS501

Born on November 3, 1986, in Gochang County, Heo graduated from Hyundai High School and Dong Seoul University. Before his debut, he spent approximately 30 months as a trainee at SM Entertainment and three months at DSP Media. Following the success of the EP Snow Prince, the group gained significant traction, establishing their fan club, Triple S. In 2008, the group expanded into the Japanese market with the single Kokoro, which reached number five on the charts. During the group's temporary hiatus, Heo led the project unit SS501, which recorded the hit track U R Man and contributed the song Because I'm Stupid to the Boys Over Flowers soundtrack.

Solo Transition and Composition

In 2010, Heo signed with B2M Entertainment to pursue solo projects. His first solo mini-album, Let It Go, was released in May 2011, reaching the top spot on the Gaon album chart. He later collaborated on the planning and production of his 2012 mini-album, Solo, as part of a conscious effort to transition from a traditional idol persona to a more involved creative role.

Theater and Military Service

Heo expanded his career into acting and musical theater, making his stage debut as D'Artagnan in The Three Musketeers in 2011. He subsequently appeared in the 2013 musical Summer Snow. Between 2013 and 2015, he fulfilled his mandatory 21-month military service as a police officer. Upon his return, he joined CI Entertainment and performed in the musical Haru. In 2016, he reunited with former bandmates Kim Kyu-jong and Kim Hyung-jun to form Double S 301, releasing the album Eternal 5 in February and the Japanese album Eternal S in April.
