Academic Formation
Grobner completed his initial studies in mathematics, philosophy, and classical philology at the University of Vienna, graduating in 2005. He pursued doctoral research between 2005 and 2007, working under the supervision of Joachim Schwermer at both the University of Vienna and the Université Paris VI. His early professional development included research tenures at the Erwin Schrödinger Institute for Mathematical Physics, the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics in Bonn, and the Institut mathématiques de Jussieu.

In 2014, Grobner achieved his habilitation from the University of Vienna, focusing on automorphic cohomology and the rationality of special L-values. His research interests remain anchored in the Langlands program, specifically addressing algebra and number theory. He has served as an organiser for the Algebra and Number Theory research seminar at the University of Vienna since 2018, continuing a role originally established under the title of the Number Theory Seminar.
Projects and Publications
Grobner has secured significant backing from the Austrian Science Fund for multiple long-term initiatives. Between 2016 and 2022, he directed the international programme concerning special L-values and p-adic L-functions, followed by a project on automorphic models and global algebras from 2020 to 2023. In late 2023, he began a four-year study titled New aspects of automorphic and smooth-automorphic forms. His book, Smooth-automorphic forms and smooth-automorphic representations, also appeared in 2023, providing a structural examination of the subject.
