In 1994, Guo assumed the role of chairman at Fosun Group. Under his leadership, the firm diversified into industries including pharmaceuticals, healthcare, steel, property, and retail. The group subsequently expanded its portfolio internationally, acquiring stakes in Club Med in France, Fidelidade Seguros in Portugal, and Folli Follie in Greece to leverage Chinese economic growth.
Regulatory and Sports Interests
In December 2015, Guo was briefly detained by authorities to assist with an investigation, leading to a temporary suspension of trading for his Hong Kong-listed subsidiary. He returned to public view days later. In July 2016, his company acquired Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club for £45 million. Under this ownership, the club secured the 2017–18 Championship title and later achieved a seventh-place finish in the Premier League, qualifying for the Europa League.
Political and Professional Status
Beyond his corporate roles, Guo serves as a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. He also holds membership in the Standing Committee of the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce and the All-China Youth Federation.
