Early Career and Industrial Ventures
After completing his studies at the University of Lausanne and earning a laurea, Corni pursued a path in industrial chemistry. He successfully established the Fabbrica Modenese Utensileria e Ferramenta Corni Bassani. By 1911, he shifted his focus toward economic research, traveling to Italian Tripolitania to investigate the region's development potential and spending subsequent years exploring Libya.

Between June 1, 1928, and July 1, 1931, Corni served as the Governor of Somalia. His administration concentrated on integrating the local population into the Italian colonial system and fostering economic growth. He promoted the development of the Genale region, where Italian settlers established small and medium-sized farms totaling approximately 20,000 hectares. While initially centered on cotton, the region later transitioned to a state-monopolized banana trade. During this period, he facilitated the occupation of border zones in the Ogaden region of southern Ethiopia.
Political and Later Life
Following his return to Italy in 1935, Corni held a seat in the Chamber of Deputies from 1934 to 1939 and served as the President of the Federazione imprese trasporti automobilistici. He authored two volumes regarding Somalia italiana before his expulsion from the Modena Fascist Party in 1937. He subsequently resided at Castle Monfestino in the Apennine Mountains until his health declined. He died in Genoa on February 28, 1946.
