Franco Colapinto made his Formula One debut at the 2024 Italian Grand Prix, becoming the first Argentine driver to compete in the series since Gastón Mazzacane in 2001. A dual citizen of Argentina and Italy, he secured his initial championship points at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix before repeating the result in the United States.
Early Career and Karting
Born in 2003 in Pilar, Buenos Aires, Colapinto began competitive karting at age nine. He moved to Italy alone at fourteen to advance his career. His junior success includes winning the 2016 and 2018 Argentine championships. In 2018, he debuted in car racing by participating in the final round of the F4 Spanish Championship, where he secured a victory in his first outing.

In 2019, Colapinto won the F4 Spanish Championship title with Drivex, recording ten poles and eleven wins. He subsequently progressed through the Formula Renault Eurocup, where he finished third in the 2020 standings with 213.5 points, and the Toyota Racing Series. His transition to sportscar racing in 2021 included stints in the FIA World Endurance Championship and the European Le Mans Series.
Formula One Entry
Colapinto joined the Williams Driver Academy in 2023. In 2024, he replaced Logan Sargeant at Williams for the remainder of the season. Following this stint, he joined Alpine as a reserve driver for 2025, eventually earning a promotion to the main race seat. He holds a contract with Alpine that extends until at least the end of the 2027 season.
