Peter L. "Finn" Wittrock Jr. launched his professional acting career in 2004 with a television role in Halloweentown High. Born in Lenox, Massachusetts in 1984, he developed a significant presence in American film, stage, and television through a diverse range of performances that bridge classical theatrical training and contemporary popular media productions.
Early Education and Training
Growing up in a theatrical environment, Wittrock spent much of his childhood at the Shakespeare & Company theatre where his father, Peter L. Wittrock, was employed. His academic path included the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts. By 2003, he earned recognition as a U.S. Presidential Scholar in the Arts. He later attended the Juilliard School as part of the drama division's Group 37, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2008. Wittrock established his reputation in theater through regional and Off-Broadway performances. After playing Romeo at the Shakespeare Theatre Company in Washington, D.C., he joined the production of Candida at the Berkshire Theatre Festival in 2008. He gained widespread attention for his Off-Broadway work in Tony Kushner's The Illusion. His 2012 Broadway debut occurred in the revival of Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman, where he performed as Happy Loman. This role earned him both a Theatre World Award and a Clarence Derwent Award. His subsequent stage credits include Tennessee Williams' Sweet Bird of Youth at The Goodman Theatre and The Glass Menagerie on Broadway.
Television and Film Collaborations
Wittrock maintained a long-term professional association with producer Ryan Murphy, appearing in multiple installments of the FX anthology series American Horror Story, including Freak Show, Hotel, and Roanoke. His portrayal of Dandy Mott in Freak Show secured him an Emmy nomination. Further television work includes the role of Edmund Tolleson in Ratched and Jeffrey Trail in The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story. His film career features performances in The Big Short, Unbroken, La La Land, and the Judy Garland biopic Judy, where he portrayed Mickey Deans.
