In 1918, he achieved the rank of major and subsequently oversaw the Infantry Winter School from its inception in 1923 until 1938.

Beyond his military and cartographic responsibilities, Qvale held various positions in organizations dedicated to outdoor activity and Norwegian cultural pursuits. He chaired the Association for the Promotion of Skiing for thirteen years, from 1924 to 1937. Furthermore, he served as a board member for the Norwegian Trekking Association and maintained involvement with the Norwegian Association of Hunters and Anglers.
Recognitions and Final Years
His career earned him several international and domestic accolades. He was named a Knight of the Order of St. Olav in 1938, though other records note his status as a Commander of the Order of St. Olav. Additional international honors included the Order of the Crown of Italy, the Royal Order of the Sword, and the Legion of Honour. He died in 1955 at Rikshospitalet in Oslo and was interred at Vestre gravlund.
