In 1942, after her husband, the actor Syed Hasan Ali Zaidi—known as Kumar—was dismissed from Ranjit studio, the couple co-founded Silver Films alongside Chandramohan. Abraham served as a producer or co-producer on thirteen projects under this banner and various subsidiaries like Shama Productions. While these ventures aimed to support young talent, they faced challenges, including the outright banning of the 1948 film Aap Beeti due to its depiction of Indian-Pakistani relations.
Marriage, Controversy, and Legacy
Abraham converted to Islam to marry Zaidi, a union that produced four children. Their domestic life ended in 1963 when Zaidi relocated to Pakistan. During her career, Abraham faced political scrutiny; Morarji Desai, then Chief Minister of Bombay, ordered her arrest over suspicions of spying for Pakistan, though it was eventually confirmed her frequent travel was solely for film promotion. Her professional legacy remains linked to her daughter, Naqi Jahan, who also won the Miss India title, establishing the pair as a unique historical entry in the pageant's records.
