Ei-ichi Negishi was born at Hsinking in 1935. His recorded nationality is United States. He was educated at University of Pennsylvania and University of Tokyo.
Twentieth-century science was collaborative, expensive and political: the questions were pursued by teams, and the answers had consequences that reached well past the laboratory.
His working life was spent at Hokkaido University, Purdue University and Syracuse University, where the work centred on organic chemistry.
