Early International Success
Hadadi gained international recognition in 2004 when he secured the gold medal at the World Junior Championships in Grosseto. This victory marked the first time an Iranian athlete claimed a medal at a global athletics event, following his performance as the 2004 Asian Junior Champion. He continued this momentum by winning the 2005 Asian Championships in Incheon with a throw of 65.25 metres and taking the title at the 2006 Asian Games held in Doha, Qatar.

Following a successful 2007, where he defended his title at the Asian Championships in Amman, he entered the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing as a medal contender. However, recurring injuries hindered his performance, resulting in a 17th-place finish. He rebounded by 2011 to win bronze at the World Championships in Daegu, becoming the first Iranian to earn a medal at an IAAF event. At the 2012 Summer Olympics, he secured a silver medal with a throw of 68.18 metres, ending a 64-year period where Iranian Olympic success had been limited exclusively to wrestling, weightlifting, and taekwondo.
Career Transition and Administrative Role
Beyond his athletic achievements, which included multiple Asian titles in Guangzhou and Kobe, Hadadi engaged in philanthropy, including donating his 2012 silver medal to children diagnosed with cancer and raising funds for earthquake victims in Azerbaijan. After a career characterized by significant physical challenges, including shoulder surgery in 2009 and a positive COVID-19 test in March 2020, he transitioned into governance. As of July 2024, he serves as the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Athletics Federation.
