Ehsan Hajsafi made his senior national team debut on 25 May 2008 against Zambia, providing two assists in a 3–2 victory at Azadi Stadium. Born in Kashan in 1990, the Iranian professional footballer emerged from the Zob Ahan youth system before joining Sepahan in 2006, where he established himself as a versatile tactical utility player.
Early Career and Domestic Success
Discovered by Luka Bonačić at the Sepahan academy, Hajsafi played in the 2007 FIFA Club World Cup and helped the side reach the 2007 AFC Champions League final. During the 2009–10 season, he transitioned into a left-back role as Sepahan secured the league title. He later completed a loan spell with Tractor between 2011 and 2012 before returning to Sepahan to win the Hazfi Cup.

Hajsafi signed with 2. Bundesliga side FSV Frankfurt in August 2015, making his debut against Eintracht Braunschweig. He gained attention for his set-piece ability, scoring from 50 yards against SC Freiburg in March 2016. In 2017, he moved to Greece, playing for Panionios before transferring to Olympiacos in December for a €600,000 fee. He returned to Iran for a stint at Tractor in 2018.
Success with AEK Athens
Signing with AEK Athens in August 2021, Hajsafi adapted to multiple positions, including left-back and midfield. Under manager Matias Almeyda, he played a vital role during the 2022–23 season, assisting a goal in the 4–0 win against Volos that clinched the championship. He also started in the cup final, securing a domestic double for the club. In September 2023, he provided two assists during a Europa League victory over Brighton.
International Representation
Following appearances for Iran’s U17, U20, and U23 squads, Hajsafi became a mainstay for the senior national team. He scored his first international goal against Qatar in 2008. Under Carlos Queiroz, he featured in the 2014, 2018, and 2022 FIFA World Cup tournaments. He first captained the team in March 2014 during a match against Kuwait, marking his 57th appearance.
