Early Career and Atrium Musicae
Born in 1952 in Madrid, Paniagua began his musical career in 1966 as a member of the ensemble Atrium Musicae de Madrid. Under the direction of his brother, Gregorio Paniagua, he contributed as a player of percussion and wind instruments. This period, which concluded in 1983, established his foundational experience with historical performance practices, evidenced by recordings such as La Folía and La Spagna.

Paniagua later expanded his focus toward the musical heritage of Al-Andalus. He became a founding member of the groups Cálamus and Hoquetus. In 1994, he collaborated with oud player Omar Metioui to establish the Ibn Báya Ensemble, an initiative dedicated to the performance and recording of traditional Andalusian works. His collaborative network includes musicians such as Algerian oud player Salim Fergani and Moroccan singers Said Belcadi and Mohammed El-Arabi Serghini.
The Pneuma Record Label
To oversee the distribution and preservation of his extensive research, Paniagua founded the record label Pneuma. Through this platform, he manages a vast catalogue of recordings, including his work with Música Antigua, compilations of earlier Sony Hispánica releases, and his own musical projects. The label has also produced book-discs focusing on historical literary figures, including Ibn Gabirol, Rabindranath Tagore, and Rumi.
