Devin Finzer

American entrepreneur and technology executive

A 2013 computer science and mathematics graduate from Brown University, Devin Finzer co-founded OpenSea in December 2017 to operate a marketplace for non-fungible tokens. At Brown University, he collaborated with Dylan Field to launch CourseKick, a registration search engine that attained a 20 percent undergraduate user rate shortly after deployment. Early Ventures and Blockchain Interest

Finzer transitioned into entrepreneurship by co-founding Claimdog, a personal finance application later acquired by Credit Karma. While employed at Credit Karma, he began focusing on blockchain technology. He collaborated with Alex Atallah to develop WifiCoin, a project accepted by Y Combinator. The duo shifted their focus to non-fungible tokens following the emergence of CryptoKitties, leading directly to the establishment of OpenSea.

Capital Growth and Market Valuation

OpenSea secured pre-seed backing from Y Combinator in 2018, followed by $2.1 million in November 2019. The company achieved unicorn status in 2021 after raising $23 million in March and $100 million later that year. By January 2022, a Series C funding round brought the valuation to $13.3 billion. Forbes estimated that Finzer and Atallah held stakes worth $2.2 billion each at that peak, though valuations fell to under $600 million each by April 2023.

Personal and Public Engagements

Finzer married Yu-Chi Lyra Kuo in 2021. Kuo, an investor who holds degrees from Princeton and Harvard Law, has contributed to the strategic direction of OpenSea 2.0. Outside of corporate activities, the couple participates in social and cultural events, such as the 2025 Save Venice Un Ballo in Maschera at The Plaza Hotel, where they received an award for their masks.
