Early Career and IT Development

Born in 1978 in Agara, Sverdlov grew up in Saint Petersburg. His parents worked at a state-run facility producing electrical turbine fan blades. Following his graduation from the Saint Petersburg State University of Engineering and Economics in 2000, he entered the technology sector by launching IT Vision, a consulting enterprise. Between 2003 and 2007, he served as a managing partner and co-founder at Korus Consulting, deepening his experience in IT services.

Telecommunications and Yota

Sverdlov co-founded the mobile broadband company Yota, holding the position of chief executive during its growth phase. Under his direction, the business achieved operational profitability within five months of its 2009 launch. The company was acquired by MegaFon in 2012 for $1.2 billion. This success contributed to his inclusion in the 2011 Global Telecoms Business magazine ranking of successful young entrepreneurs.

Government Service and Kinetik Trust

In 2012, Sverdlov transitioned into public service as Russia's deputy minister for communications and mass media. He held this office for 15 months, resigning in 2013 due to legislation restricting government officials from maintaining foreign assets. Following his government tenure, he established the Kinetik Trust to identify and invest in emerging technologies.

Arrival and Public Markets

He founded Arrival in 2015, serving as chief executive from March 2016 until November 2022. The electric vehicle manufacturer listed on the Nasdaq in March 2021 via a merger with CIIG Merger Corp, securing a valuation of approximately $13.6–13.8 billion. By February 2024, the company faced significant financial hardship, resulting in the delisting of its stock and the entry of its primary division into administration.
