Formative Years in California
Lombardo attended Pius X High School and later South Gate High School, graduating in June 1983. His early musical development was influenced by Santana, Kiss, and the mobile disc jockey scene. After performing at talent shows, he joined bands such as Escape and Sabotage. Despite parental pressure to prioritize academics, he pursued music while maintaining employment at the Diesel Energy Systems Company.

At age 16, Lombardo met guitarist Kerry King in South Gate. After collaborating with Jeff Hanneman and Tom Araya, the group formed Slayer. The band gained momentum with the album Show No Mercy. For their 1986 record Reign in Blood, Lombardo worked with producer Rick Rubin. He left the band briefly due to financial disputes before returning in 1987, eventually contributing to South of Heaven and Seasons in the Abyss.

Lombardo departed Slayer in 1992 to attend the birth of his first child. He returned in 2001 following a decade-long absence, proving his technical proficiency during rehearsals.
