Dante Amaral

Standing 2.01 metres tall, Dante Guimarães Santos do Amaral established himself as a dominant outside hitter for the Brazil men's national volleyball team starting in 1999. Known professionally simply as Dante, he became a central figure in international volleyball, contributing to numerous tournament victories and individual accolades throughout his career across South America and Europe.

Early Career and Domestic Success

Dante began his professional journey in 1999 with the Brazilian club Tres Corações. He spent subsequent seasons playing for domestic sides Suzano São Paulo and Minas Belo Horizonte. By 2001 and 2002, he was already securing titles, including the Brazilian Superliga with Minas Tênis Clube. His transition to international competition accelerated in 2002 when he moved to Italy to represent Pallavolo Modena.

International Competition and Achievements

The athlete achieved significant milestones with the Brazilian national team, beginning his tenure in 1999. His international trophy haul includes success at the 2004 Olympic Games and multiple FIVB World League titles. Between 2001 and 2013, he remained a consistent presence in World League rosters. His tactical versatility earned him recognition as the best receiver in 2004 and the best blocker in the 2005 World League.

Club Tenure in Europe

Beyond his Brazilian roots, Dante played extensively within European leagues. Following his time in Italy, where he won the CEV Cup with Modena, he transferred to the Greek team Panathinaikos in 2005. During his tenure there, he secured the Greek championship in 2006 followed by the Greek cup and supercup in 2007. Later in his career, he competed for P.A.O.K. Thessaloniki, winning the Greek League in 2016-2017. He also spent time with Dynamo Moscow, participating in the CEV Champions League between 2009 and 2011.

Individual Recognitions

Throughout his tenure, Dante consistently earned individual honors for his performance on the court. He was named the best spiker at the 2004 Summer Olympics, the 2006 World Championship, and the 2007 FIVB World Cup. Further accolades include being named the most valuable player at the 2005 America's Cup and the ideal player at the 2014 Kurowashiki Tournament. These awards reflect his longevity and technical skill in the outside hitter position.
