Early Career in Peru
Pizarro began his professional path at age 17 with Deportivo Pesquero, a provincial club based in Chimbote. He debuted in 1996 against Alianza Lima, netting his first two goals shortly after against Atletico Torino. During two subsequent seasons with Alianza Lima, he recorded 25 goals and gained experience in the Copa Libertadores. This performance drew international attention, leading to his transfer to Germany in 1999.

Joining SV Werder Bremen at 20, Pizarro made an immediate impact by scoring ten goals in his debut season. His highlight included a hat-trick against VfL Wolfsburg and a crucial goal in a 4-0 comeback victory against Olympique Lyonnais. Following his initial stint, he signed with Bayern Munich in 2001. Over multiple spells in Munich, he secured several domestic titles and cups. Known as the Bomber of the Andes, he concluded his Bundesliga career as the oldest player to score a goal in the league at age 40.
International and English Experience
In 2007, Pizarro moved to the Premier League, signing a four-year contract with Chelsea F.C. via a Bosman transfer.
