Technical Foundations and Early Operations
Initial professional contributions focused on reservoir engineering before transitioning into project management across the North Sea, Libya, Nigeria, and the Congo. By 1990, the leadership of reservoir operations for Eni Italy resulted in a production increase to 250,000 barrels per day. The late 1990s saw management of the Congolese subsidiary, overseeing the Kitina offshore project and the development of deep-water infrastructure alongside gas exports from the NLNG liquefaction plant.

During this time, significant exploration campaigns were launched in West Hub, Angola, and Mozambique, leading to the appointment as Chief Executive Officer in 2014.

The leadership tenure involved high-profile legal challenges regarding international corruption allegations tied to operations in Nigeria and the Republic of the Congo. Milan courts acquitted the defendants in the Nigeria case in 2021, a ruling that became definitive in 2022. By 2023, the Milan Public Prosecutor's Office requested the dismissal of the Congo-related proceedings. In 2024, the Court of Brescia sentenced the prosecutors of the Nigeria trial to prison for omitting evidence, though they were subsequently acquitted by the Court of Cassation in 2026.
