Klüppelberg served as a professor of applied statistics at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz before joining the faculty at the Technical University of Munich. She maintained a position at this institution from 1997 until her transition to professor emerita status in 2019.
Publications and Editorial Contributions
Her body of published work includes textbooks and edited volumes central to stochastic theory. In 1997, she co-authored Modelling Extremal Events: for Insurance and Finance with Paul Embrechts and Thomas Mikosch. She also co-edited Complex Stochastic Systems with Ole Barndorff-Nielsen and David R. Cox in 2001, and Risk - A Multidisciplinary Introduction with Daniel Straub and Isabell M. Welpe in 2014.

The scientific community has acknowledged her contributions through several awards and affiliations. She received the Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany and the Pro meritis scientiae et litterarum in 2001.
