Academic Formation
Geiß completed his university training at the University of Bayreuth. He spent five years there between 1985 and 1990, culminating in the Diplomarbeit entitled Darstellungsendliche Algebren und multiplikative Basen. He continued his studies at the same institution until 1993. During his doctoral research, he worked under the supervision of Wolfgang Erich Müller and José Antonio de la Peña, resulting in his 1993 doctorate.

Following his doctoral work, Geiß held a position at the University of Bayreuth during the 1993–1994 academic period. He subsequently shifted his professional focus to the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). Having previously spent time there in 1991 and 1992, he joined the staff as an Investigador Associado in 1993. He currently serves as an Investigador Titular C at the university.
Mathematical Research
The research output of Geiß centres on cluster algebras within the framework of Lie theory. His technical contributions include the study of quivers associated with symmetrizable Cartan matrices and their relations. In 2018, he presented these developments as an Invited Speaker at the International Congress of Mathematics, focusing on algebraic Lie Theory. He frequently collaborates with researchers Bernard Leclerc and Jan Schröer, producing a significant body of work on rigid modules and semicanonical bases for unipotent groups.
