Ashley Elizabeth Fliehr, known professionally as Charlotte Flair, is a 14-time world champion wrestler currently signed to WWE. Born in Charlotte, North Carolina, in 1986, she first appeared in World Championship Wrestling as a child in 1993. Before her transition to professional sports entertainment, she established herself as a skilled athlete on the volleyball court during her high school and collegiate years.
Academic and Athletic Foundations
Before her professional wrestling debut, Fliehr attended Providence High School in Charlotte, where she earned two North Carolina 4A state championships in volleyball. She served as team captain and received player of the year honors in 2004 and 2005. She continued her education at Appalachian State University, playing volleyball for two seasons, before transferring to North Carolina State University. In 2008, she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in public relations and worked as a certified personal trainer.

Fliehr’s initial exposure to professional wrestling occurred during her youth. In 1993, she appeared in a vignette at the WCW pay-per-view Starrcade 10th Anniversary alongside her father, Ric Flair. By 2000, she participated in storylines involving her father, Vince Russo, and her half-brother David. She made appearances on Monday Nitro, including an incident at the family home, and later assisted in a retirement match at The Great American Bash, where she physically intervened to help her father defeat David.
WWE Career and NXT Development
In 2012, Fliehr signed a developmental contract with WWE and began training under Lodi and later Sara Del Rey in Tampa. Debuting in NXT in 2013, she performed under the name Charlotte. She formed alliances with other wrestlers, including the BFFs group alongside Sasha Banks and Summer Rae. In May 2014, she won the NXT Women's Championship by defeating Natalya at TakeOver. Her performance in the developmental circuit led to her promotion to the main roster in 2015.
Main Roster Success
Since joining the main WWE roster, Flair became the final holder of the WWE Divas Championship and the inaugural WWE Raw Women's Champion. She holds records for the most Raw Women's Championship reigns and SmackDown Women's Championship titles. In 2016, she and Sasha Banks became the first women to headline a WWE pay-per-view. She subsequently headlined WrestleMania 35 in 2019 alongside Becky Lynch and Ronda Rousey, and secured victories in the Royal Rumble matches of 2020 and 2025.
