Carlos Emilio Carmona Tello debuted for the Chile senior national team on 19 November 2008 during a match against Spain. A midfielder by trade, his professional journey spanned domestic leagues in Chile and stints in Italy and the Major League Soccer before he concluded his active career in 2022 following a final trophy-winning campaign.
Early Career and European Tenure
Carmona began his professional path at Coquimbo Unido. After two years, he moved to O'Higgins. His first international transfer occurred on 1 June 2008 when he signed with the Italian club Reggina. He appeared in 32 matches during that initial campaign. By the summer of 2010, he transferred to Atalanta. He contributed to the squad during their promotion from Serie B, appearing in 32 matches to help the club regain top-level status.

As a youth player, Carmona participated in the 2005 FIFA World Youth Championship in the Netherlands. He later captained the Chile side to a bronze medal finish at the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup, participating in victories against Canada, Congo, Nigeria, and Austria. Under coach Marcelo Bielsa, he also secured a silver medal at the 2008 Toulon Tournament. At the senior level, he scored his first international goal on 6 February 2013 against Egypt. He was named to the 2015 Copa America squad but withdrew due to injury.
Transition to Major League Soccer and Retirement
On 6 February 2017, Carmona signed with the Major League Soccer team Atlanta United. His debut took place on 7 March 2017, where he received a red card. He scored his first goal for the club on 7 May 2017. In 2018, he moved to Colo-Colo, where he won the 2018 Supercopa de Chile and the 2019 Copa Chile. In February 2021, he rejoined his original club, Coquimbo Unido, winning the Primera B title before retiring in January 2022. He has since graduated as a football manager and returned to amateur play in September 2025.
