Bård Guldvik Eithun, known by his stage name Faust, is a Norwegian musician and drummer who emerged from the early 1990s black metal scene. His career includes extensive contributions to numerous extreme metal projects, alongside academic pursuits and a criminal conviction that resulted in a decade of imprisonment during the peak of his early band, Emperor.
Early Career and Emperor
Born in 1974 in Hedmark, Eithun moved to Lillehammer at age sixteen to drum for Thorns, then known as Stigma Diabolicum. During the early 1990s, he published the fanzine Orcustus. In 1992, he relocated to Oslo to work at Helvete, a shop owned by Mayhem guitarist Øystein Aarseth. That same year, he joined Emperor, contributing to their seminal debut album, In the Nightside Eclipse, released in 1994.

In August 1992, Eithun killed Magne Andreassen in a Lillehammer park. He confessed to the act and was sentenced to 14 years in prison in 1994, which he served at Ullersmo. During his imprisonment, he earned two bachelor degrees from the University of Oslo in the history of religions and the history of ideas, while also completing a year of E-business studies. He was released in 2003 after serving over nine years.
Professional Resurgence
Following his release, Eithun resumed his musical career, joining acts including Blood Tsunami, Aborym, and the supergroup Scum. He returned to perform with Emperor for their 20th anniversary tour in 2014. In 2017, he joined the black metal band Djevel, with whom he won a Spellemann Award in 2022 for the album Tanker som rir natten. His discography spans multiple decades and genres, including thrash and industrial black metal.
