Academic Foundation
Bose completed his B.Stat, M.Stat, and Ph.D. in statistics at the Indian Statistical Institute in Kolkata. During his doctoral studies, he worked under the supervision of G. Jogesh Babu. Following the completion of his education, he secured an assistant professor position at Purdue University. He remained in that post for four years before returning to India in 1991.

Upon his return to India in 1991, Bose joined the Indian Statistical Institute in Kolkata as an associate professor. He ascended to the rank of full professor in 1995. His tenure at the institute has been marked by extensive research output covering sequential analysis, U-statistics, time series, and the asymptotic properties of estimators. He has also explored censored data problems, resampling methods, and M-estimation.
Professional Recognition and Membership
Bose has maintained active participation in numerous professional bodies. He is a member of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics, the Indian National Science Academy, the Indian Academy of Sciences, and the National Academy of Sciences, India. Additionally, he holds memberships in the Bernoulli Society for Mathematical Statistics and Probability, the Calcutta Statistical Association, and the Indian Mathematical Society. He served as an invited speaker at the 2010 International Congress of Mathematicians in Hyderabad.
Honours and Awards
Beyond the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize, Bose has received several distinctions. He was elected a Fellow of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics in 2002. Other recognitions include the National Award in Statistics in honour of Prof C. R.
