On 24 June 2025, Andreas Schjelderup scored the decisive goal in a 1–0 victory over Bayern Munich, securing Benfica's inaugural win against the German side. This performance solidified his role in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, marking a significant milestone in a career that began in his native Bodø and moved through Denmark before reaching the Primeira Liga.

Early Career and Danish Development

Born on 1 June 2004 in Bodø, Norway, Schjelderup developed in the youth ranks of Bodø/Glimt. In July 2020, he moved to Denmark to join FC Nordsjælland. He made his senior debut on 7 February 2021 against OB at age 16. By March 2021, he became the club's youngest-ever goalscorer in the Superliga. His efforts were instrumental in securing Nordsjælland's place in the championship play-offs during the 2020–21 season.

Transition to Benfica

Schjelderup signed a five-year contract with Benfica on 12 January 2023. Following a period of limited first-team opportunities, he returned to Nordsjælland on a season-long loan in September 2023, where he was recognized as the spring season's best player. Returning to Lisbon, he broke through in the 2024–25 season, scoring his first league goal against Rio Ave in October 2024 and contributing to a Taça da Liga title in January 2025.

International Milestones

After debuting for the Norway under-21 team in 2021, Schjelderup made his senior international debut on 5 June 2024, replacing Erling Haaland in a 3–0 win over Kosovo. In the 2026 FIFA World Cup, he provided two assists in a Round of 16 victory against Brazil and scored against England in the quarter-finals, his first World Cup goal.

Legal Conviction

On 19 November 2025, Schjelderup was convicted in Denmark for the distribution of sexual material featuring minors. He admitted to forwarding a Snapchat video involving two individuals under 18 to four friends. The court issued a 14-day suspended sentence with a 12-month probationary period. Schjelderup publicly acknowledged the event, which occurred when he was 19, describing his actions as a mistake.
