The first published science fiction story authored by Anatoly Fomenko, titled The Mystery of the Milky Way, appeared in the magazine Pionerskaya Pravda in 1959. This early interest in speculative narratives would eventually evolve into a professional career spanning formal mathematical research at Lomonosov Moscow State University and the controversial development of a pseudoscientific historical framework known as New Chronology.
Academic Career and Mathematical Foundations
Born in 1945 in Donetsk, Fomenko pursued his education at the MSU Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics, graduating in 1967. His academic progression included the defense of his thesis on the classification of totally geodesic manifolds in 1970 and a doctoral thesis in 1972 regarding the multidimensional Plateau problem. By December 1981, he attained the rank of professor in the field of Higher Geometry and Topology. In 1992, he assumed the role of head of Differential Geometry and Applications at his alma mater.

Take the IQ test →Contributions to Topology and Geometry
Fomenko is recognized for developing the theory of topological invariants within integrable Hamiltonian systems. His body of work comprises 180 scientific publications and 26 textbooks covering diverse topics such as symplectic topology, variational calculus, and computational geometry. His efforts in the field were acknowledged by the State Prize of the Russian Federation in 1996. Beyond formal research, he creates original illustrations and paintings that visualize complex topological objects and structures.
New Chronology Theory
Fomenko gained public attention for the New Chronology, a theory suggesting that conventional historical records are inaccurate. Drawing on concepts proposed by Nikolai Alexandrovich Morozov, Fomenko utilized statistical methods to argue that ancient histories of Egypt, Greece, and Rome are essentially reflections of medieval events. His claims suggest that historical narratives concerning Arab and Chinese civilizations were fabricated by Jesuits during the 17th and 18th centuries. Most historians and scientists worldwide categorize these historical works as pseudoscientific.
