Alf Hildrum

Alf Ivar Hildrum graduated from the Norwegian School of Economics before beginning a diverse career spanning the corridors of national government, political journalism, and media management. His professional path evolved from civil service within the Ministry of Trade and Shipping to long-term leadership roles at the helm of prominent Norwegian media organizations over several decades.

Early Career and Public Service

Born in 1948 in Overhalla Municipality, Hildrum established his early professional trajectory through government service. Between 1977 and 1978, he served as an information secretary for the Norwegian Ministry of Trade and Shipping. He subsequently assumed the role of private secretary within the same ministry, succeeding Tove Strand Gerhardsen. This tenure provided him with a foundation in policy and administration before he transitioned into the media industry.

Journalism and Editorial Roles

Hildrum’s career in journalism commenced in 1979 at Arbeidernes Pressekontor. He remained with the organization until 1981, when he accepted the position of editor-in-chief at Bergens Arbeiderblad. He held this editorial role until 1984. Returning to Arbeidernes Pressekontor later that year, he served as a subeditor for a four-year period ending in 1988.

Executive Leadership in Media

The focus of his career shifted toward executive management at the close of the 1980s. Hildrum served as the chief executive officer of A-pressen from 1988 until 2007. During the years 2006 and 2007, he also functioned as a chairperson. Following his departure from A-pressen, he transitioned to the position of chief executive officer at TV 2, where he managed operations from 2007 until his departure in 2015.
