Alessandro Benetton launched his career in global finance at Goldman Sachs International in 1988, marking a transition into the professional sphere after completing his education at Boston University and Harvard Business School. Since then, he has established himself as an investor and executive, navigating positions within the family enterprise and the broader European private equity landscape.
Private Equity and Strategic Investment
In 1992, Benetton founded 21 Investimenti S.p.A., now known as 21 invest. Over 33 years, this firm has focused on mid-market companies throughout Italy, France, and Spain, raising nearly three billion euros from global institutional investors. His firm has completed more than 120 investments, establishing him as a pioneer of the private equity sector within Italy. Beyond his own firm, he has held significant leadership roles at Edizione S.p.A., serving as Chairman since January 2022. Additionally, he became the Vice Chairman of Mundys in 2023 and assumed the role of Chairman of that group in March 2026.

Between 1988 and 1998, Benetton served as Chairman of the Benetton Formula racing team. This decade coincided with 26 of the team’s 27 Formula One victories. His tenure included two world championship titles won by Michael Schumacher in 1994 and 1995, as well as a 1995 manufacturing title. During these years, he collaborated with drivers including Nelson Piquet, Jean Alesi, Riccardo Patrese, and Alessandro Nannini. In later years, he expanded his governance portfolio to include serving as Honorary Chairman of Avolta, following the integration of Autogrill and Dufry.
Public Service and Mentorship
Benetton’s professional activities extend to social and sports administration. He served as President of the Cortina Foundation 2021, managing the FIS Alpine World Ski Championship, which was designed as an environmentally and economically sustainable event. He founded the Unhate Foundation in 2011, which he relaunched in 2025 to address social inclusion through a strategy led by a committee of individuals under age 30. He has documented his professional philosophy in two books: 2022's 'La Traiettoria' and the 2025 publication 'Mai Fermi', the latter of which profiles eight mentors ranging from Andy Warhol to Kelly Slater.
