Adriano Afonso Maleiane served as the Prime Minister of Mozambique from 3 March 2022 until 15 January 2025. A career economist and civil servant, he transitioned through senior financial roles before leading the national government. Academic Background
Born in Matola-Rio in 1949, Maleiane pursued higher education both domestically and abroad. He completed his undergraduate studies in economics at Eduardo Mondlane University. He subsequently attained a master's degree in managerial finance from SOAS, University of London.

Maleiane held the position of Governor of the Bank of Mozambique for fifteen years, from 1991 until 2006. Following this period of oversight of the national central bank, he transitioned to the development sector. From 2011 until January 2015, he served as the chairman and chief executive officer of the Banco Nacional de Investimento, which functions as the state-owned development bank of the country.
Ministerial and Executive Tenure
On 19 January 2015, Maleiane entered the cabinet of President Filipe Nyusi as the Minister of Economy and Finance. He maintained this portfolio until his appointment as Prime Minister on 3 March 2022. During his time in public service, he also acted as an ex officio member of the Board of Governors for both the International Monetary Fund and the Islamic Development Bank.
Honours and Distinctions
Throughout his career, Maleiane has received official recognition for his contributions to the state. He was awarded the Knight of the National Order of Merit in 1998. In 2005, he received the Order of Eduardo Mondlane, 2nd class.
