Teboho Aaron Mokoena established himself as the youngest player to represent South Africa at the senior international level when he debuted against Botswana in February 1999. Early Career and European Development
Born in Boipatong, Johannesburg, Mokoena moved to Europe to develop his skills at Bayer Leverkusen and Ajax. He gained experience through two loan spells at Germinal Beerschot before transferring to KRC Genk. His performance in Belgium solidified his reputation as a defensive asset, leading to a permanent move to English football in 2005.

Mokoena joined Blackburn Rovers in January 2005, making his debut in the FA Cup against Cardiff City. Manager Mark Hughes utilized him primarily as a holding midfielder to stabilize the squad's defensive formation. He made over 100 appearances for the club, including scoring a goal against Manchester City in 2007 and another against Sunderland in 2009. In 2009, he moved to Portsmouth on a three-year contract, where he played 70 matches before the club entered administration in 2012.
International Representation
A central figure for the South African national team, Mokoena participated in the 2000 Sydney Olympics and the 2002 FIFA World Cup. He captained the squad during the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations, the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup, and the 2010 FIFA World Cup held in South Africa. Throughout his international career, he partnered with various defenders such as Mbulelo Mabizela, remaining a consistent presence in the national set-up for over a decade.
Transition to Coaching
Following his exit from Portsmouth in July 2012, Mokoena returned to South Africa to join Bidvest Wits. After concluding his playing career, he moved into technical roles. He currently serves as the assistant coach for Cape Town City, applying his experience from professional leagues across four countries to the domestic game.
