Aaron Chia Teng Fong made history for Malaysian badminton in 2022 when he and partner Soh Wooi Yik secured the nation’s first world championship title. Born on 24 February 1997 in Batu Berendam, Melaka, Chia emerged from the Bukit Jalil Sports School system to become a consistent force in international men’s doubles competition over the past decade.

Early Development and National Entry

Introduced to the court by his father at age four, Chia began formal competition representing Melaka at age 11. He joined the Bukit Jalil Sports School at 14 and began training under the Badminton Association of Malaysia while in Form 5. His national career officially commenced in 2015, marked by a runner-up finish at the Malaysia Junior International alongside Soh Wooi Yik.

Rise to International Prominence

Following a period of partnership rotation in 2016 and 2017, Chia reunited with Soh to reach the 2017 India International finals. The duo established themselves as elite competitors in 2019, earning a silver medal at the All England Open and capturing gold at the SEA Games. By 2021, they demonstrated their stability on the global stage by securing a bronze medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics.

Championship Success and Olympic Milestones

The pair’s victory at the 2022 World Championships established them as Malaysia's primary men's doubles leaders. Beyond their world title, they claimed gold at the 2025 Asian Championships and maintained consistency at the 2024 Summer Olympics. Their victory over Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup Rasmussen in 2024 made them the first Malaysian men’s doubles pair to win consecutive Olympic medals.
