🇮🇳 Mahmood Akram

What is claimed, and by whom

India.com's report of 24 March 2025 sets out two separate figures. The first is spoken fluency in forty-six languages. The second, much larger, is the ability to read, write and type in more than four hundred scripts and languages.

Those are different skills, and the article is explicit about the distinction, which is the strongest thing about it. Reading and transcribing a script is a mechanical competence that can be learned in quantity; conversational fluency is not. The four hundred figure describes the first, not the second, and it should not be read as four hundred languages spoken.

The two records

The concrete achievements are dated and specific. At eight he was recorded as the youngest bilingual typist in the world. At ten he typed the Indian national anthem in twenty languages within one hour, and in the same year received a German Young Talent Award.

A typing feat is the kind of claim that can be timed and witnessed, which is why it anchors this record where the larger totals cannot. A scholarship followed to the Danube International School in Vienna.

How it started

The household was already linguistic. His father, Shilbee Mozhippriyan, is described as a linguist who speaks sixteen languages. Akram began with the Tamil and English alphabets at four. By six he had taken on old Tamil scripts — Vatteluttu, Grantha and Tamizhi — which are palaeographic systems rather than living languages.

Tamil remains the centre of it. "It's my mother tongue and closest to my heart," he told India.com. By 2025 he was reported to be working towards two degrees at once: animation at Alagappa University in Chennai, and English literature and linguistics with the Open University in the United Kingdom.

Where the numbers do not agree

The same article states that he was fluent in forty-six languages at nineteen and that he had learned fifty languages by the age of eight. Both cannot describe the same measure. Either the earlier figure counts scripts and reading knowledge, or one of the two totals is loose.

No testing body, examination board or independent assessor is named anywhere in the coverage, and language counts of this scale are almost never audited. The honest position is that the typing records are documented events, and the language totals are reported figures that no source in this record verifies.

What is documented — and what is not

Firm: the world record for youngest bilingual typist at eight, the twenty-language anthem typed within an hour at ten, the German Young Talent Award, the Vienna scholarship, his father's name and occupation, his home city and the two degree courses reported in 2025.

Not documented: any verified list of the languages he speaks, any assessment of fluency, the awarding body behind the typing record, and any coverage after March 2025. The article ran on an aggregator rather than a wire service, and no second outlet appears in the record gathered here. The gap is in the checking, not necessarily in the achievement, and it is left open rather than filled.
