What he won

The Junior Mental Calculation World Championship is run in Bielefeld and organised by Caroline Merkel. The 2024 edition was held from 21 to 23 September and drew 84 competitors from 14 countries, among them Algeria, Bulgaria, Canada, the Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, India, Japan, Kyrgyzstan, Mexico, Qatar, Serbia, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates, according to results published by World Mental Calculation.

The event is divided by age: Junior 1 for under-12s, Junior 2 for under-15s, Senior for under-20s and an invitational division for competitors over 20. Arora won the senior division in 2022, 2023 and 2024. The 2024 winning score was 2,730 points from a maximum of 2,866, in what World Mental Calculation called the highest-scoring year ever.

What the paper contains

Competitors sit a two-hour written paper of mental tasks: addition, square roots and calendar calculations that require naming the day of the week for historical dates. Nothing is calculated on a device; the paper records only answers.

Alongside the championship runs a Hectoc competition, in which competitors make the number 100 from a string of digits. In 2024 it drew 114 participants, scored separately for those under and over 18. The formats reward method and rehearsal rather than flashes of insight, which is why champions tend to repeat.

Beyond the junior division

In April 2024 World Mental Calculation published the results of the MSO Mental Calculations World Championship, an open competition, where the research record places Arora third, behind Kaloyan Geshev and Aaryan Shukla. A junior on the podium of an open championship is the clearest available measure of how strong the junior field has become; World Mental Calculation's 2024 report noted that several junior competitors were winning medals at adult level.

In 2026 he took silver in the under-20 division, according to the championship results published that September, ending the run of titles but keeping him among the best juniors in the world.

What is documented, and what is not

The results pages establish the titles, the scores, the venue, the format and the size of the field. They do not give his age, his birth year, his home city, his school or his coach, and the research record for this page records no age either.

This page therefore says nothing about how he trains, which method he learned or what he intends to study. Those are the questions people ask about mental calculators, and the answers are not in the sources gathered here.

Why repeat titles are the hard part

Winning a calculation championship once can be a matter of a good morning: a clean run through the addition section, a lucky set of calendar dates. Winning three in a row against an expanding international field means holding accuracy under time pressure while the standard around you rises every year, which is exactly what the 2024 scores show.

The junior championship is also a pipeline. Its graduates turn up in the adult World Cup results within a few years, which is where a page such as this one will need updating: the next line of his record will be written in an open field, against the calculators who set the world records.
