Augustine of Hippo (354–430 AD) and Thomas Aquinas (1225–1274 AD) are the two greatest philosophical theologians of Western Christianity. Augustine shaped Christian thought for nearly a millennium before Aquinas; Aquinas restructured it. Augustine brought Platonism into Christianity; Aquinas replaced it with Aristotle.
