The Palladium, 4 June 2023
The date matters: Sunday 4 June 2023 was the night of the Britain's Got Talent final, which Churchill had not reached. He spent it on the Palladium stage with Brian May instead.
ITV News West Country, reporting two days later, describes how it came about. May saw Churchill's performance on ITV and surprised him with a video call carrying the invitation. At the end of the evening he gave the boy a sixpence, which is the coin May uses in place of a plastic plectrum.
What Churchill said about it
His account of the night is the most quoted part of the report, and it is unguarded. "It was a dream come true," he told ITV News. "It was just the most crazy, mad evening of my whole entire life."
He was as struck by the coin as by the stage. "That's pretty unique and cool about him," he said of the sixpence. "He was just so kind and told me to enjoy it all." Of the evening generally: "Everyone was so nice, it was such a brilliant experience to have."
The Britain's Got Talent run
The route was conventional and it stopped one round short. Churchill auditioned, went through to the semi-finals of the 2023 series, and did not advance to the final.
The report does not say what he played on the show, which judge he impressed, or which semi-final he appeared in. It is a local news piece built around the Palladium evening rather than a review of the competition, and it carries the guitarist's home town — Bovey Tracey, on the edge of Dartmoor — and little else about him. The competition detail that survives is the placing, and the placing is enough to date everything else.
What is documented — and what is not
Firm: his age of eleven, his home town of Bovey Tracey in Devon, his run to the Britain's Got Talent 2023 semi-finals, the Palladium appearance with Brian May on 4 June 2023, the video-call invitation, the sixpence, and three direct quotations.
Not documented: his school, his family, how long he has played, who taught him, what he performed on television, and anything that has happened since June 2023. No second outlet appears in the record gathered here, and there is no Wikipedia article in his name.
Why a semi-finalist got the better night
Talent shows are built to produce one winner, and the arithmetic means almost everyone leaves without a title. What the 2023 series produced for Churchill was something the format does not award: an invitation from a working musician, extended privately, for reasons that had nothing to do with the vote.
That is the useful part of the story, and it is fully sourced. A child played well enough on national television that one of the best-known guitarists in Britain wanted to stand next to him, and did, on the night the competition was crowning somebody else. The rest of the biography is missing, and it is left missing here.
