BMX freestyle park is scored on a single sixty-second run, which means a rider gets one continuous attempt to combine amplitude, difficulty and variety without repeating a trick. Ozawa's winning line in Chiba, delivered on her last run of the day after two earlier attempts, ran backflip tailwhip over the box, barspin to can-can, barspin x-up, x-up to x-up, double barspin, x-up air, can-can over the centre feature, tailwhip air and truckdriver to tabletop. The structure matters more than any single element: nine distinct tricks with no repetition, and the highest-risk item placed first rather than saved.

Winning on a final run is a recurring feature of her results rather than a coincidence. It is the hardest way to win a park competition, because the rider knows the score to beat and has no further attempt, and it is the situation in which experienced competitors usually have the advantage over teenagers. Germany's Kim Lea Mueller took bronze at Chiba with 88.33; the more significant name below Ozawa was Roberts, who has dominated women's park for most of the past decade and who Ozawa beat at two of the three stops.

The season did not come out of nowhere. In 2025 Ozawa won the UCI BMX Freestyle Park overall World Cup title and finished the year as the world number one in the UCI overall rankings, having taken second in Montpellier and won a World Cup round on home soil in Sakai. She was also named Bloom's BMX Park Rider of the Year for 2025. When the X Games League held its inaugural draft, she was the only BMX rookie selected, joining XC Tokyo.

That combination — a UCI World Cup title in one season and a clean sweep of a new professional league the next — puts her in an unusual position for a sixteen-year-old. The two circuits reward different things. The UCI series is a season-long points competition over multiple continents; the X Games League is a short, high-pressure franchise format with a single run to settle each event. Athletes rarely convert dominance in one into dominance in the other, and almost never in consecutive years.

Two things belong in the record for honesty. The X Games League is a new commercial franchise competition rather than a UCI or Olympic title, so the sweep is a league record and not a world championship. And the claim that she is the youngest BMX medallist in X Games history is the organiser's own, taken from its internal archive. Her UCI results, by contrast, are matters of official record — and those are the ones that will decide whether she is on the start list in Los Angeles in 2028.
