The Einstein of Our Time
The apartment in the Bronx where Suborno Isaac Bari grew up was not a math academy. It was an ordinary home belonging to an immigrant Bengali-American family with extraordinary ambitions for their son — and, as it would turn out, a son with extraordinary capacity to fulfill them. By the time Suborno was two years old, he had memorized the periodic table. Not recited it imperfectly, the way some toddlers recite their ABCs, but correctly, completely, with atomic numbers. His father, himself a mathematician, realized then that his son was operating in a different category.
At three, Suborno was doing calculus. Not being led through it by a tutor, but working through problems with a fluency that suggested genuine understanding rather than rote procedure. His father, who had a PhD in mathematics, found himself challenged to keep pace with his son's questions. By the time Suborno was in primary school, the questions had outpaced primary school entirely.
In 2019, when Suborno was seven years old, his family traveled to India, where he was invited to deliver a lecture on physics at Mumbai University. He stood before an auditorium of graduate students and faculty and spoke — coherently, confidently, and correctly — about concepts that his audience had studied for years. The photographs of that event show a small boy at a large lectern, perfectly at home. Mumbai University awarded him an honorary title. A video of the lecture spread widely across South Asian social media under a caption that translated, roughly, as: this is the future.

Back in New York, Suborno enrolled at Malverne High School on Long Island. He worked through the curriculum at a pace that required continuous accommodation from his school — advancing through years of material in months, completing independent research projects, scoring 1500 on the SAT at an age when most children are still in elementary school. At ten, he became the youngest qualifier in the history of the American Invitational Mathematics Examination — the AIME — the qualification test for the US Math Olympiad pathway.
In the spring of 2024, Suborno Isaac Bari graduated from Malverne High School at age twelve. He had been accepted to New York University on a full scholarship to study Mathematics and Physics — becoming the youngest student in NYU's nearly 200-year institutional history. When he walked through the doors of the NYU College of Arts and Science in September 2024, he was twelve years old. His classmates were, on average, six years his senior.
In April 2025, Suborno delivered a TEDx talk at NYU — among four selected speakers — in which he gently pushed back against the "child prodigy" narrative. "People call me Superman," he said. "I'm not. I just had parents who showed me the beauty of numbers early. I think any child, shown that beauty, could do this." Whether or not one accepts the claim entirely, the generosity of spirit in making it, from a thirteen-year-old fielding a roomful of adult questions, was its own form of intelligence.

As of 2025–26, Suborno is on track to graduate NYU with a degree in Mathematics and a minor in Physics in spring 2027 — at age fifteen. He is simultaneously conducting research on the irrationality of the Riemann zeta function with a mathematician at Radboud University in the Netherlands. He plans to begin a PhD at sixteen and become the world's youngest professor at seventeen or eighteen. Given what he has accomplished thus far, no one is offering long odds against him.
