The 2023 final
Britain's Got Talent series 16 was judged by Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and Bruno Tonioli, and ran to a final of eleven acts in early June 2023. Viggo Venn, a 33-year-old comedian, won with 22.5 per cent of the public vote.
Behind him the field was tightly packed. Lillianna Clifton, a 13-year-old contemporary dancer, was second on 13.1 per cent. Cillian O'Connor, a close-up magician of the same age, was third on 11.8 per cent. Malakai Bayoh, billed as a 13-year-old opera singer, was fourth on 11.3 per cent. The gap between second and fourth was 1.8 percentage points.
A treble voice in a variety final
A boy soprano or treble occupies a specific and temporary place in music. The voice exists for a few years before it changes, which makes every public performance by a thirteen-year-old singer a record of something that will not sound the same again. Choral and operatic training at that age is demanding and usually institutional.
The sources used for this page establish that Bayoh was billed as an opera singer and where he finished. They do not name the pieces he sang, the choir or school that trained him, or the teacher who prepared him. Those details circulate widely online; none of them is corroborated here, so none of them appears on this page.
The numbers ITV published
The Britain's Got Talent final is decided entirely by public vote, and the broadcaster publishes the percentages afterwards. ITV released the 2023 table on its official site on 4 June 2023, listing every finalist's share. That is where the 11.3 per cent figure comes from.
The rest of the order that night ran: Musa Motha fifth on 10.9 per cent, the Ghetto Kids dance group sixth on 10.1 per cent, the singer Amy Lou seventh on 5.8 per cent, the opera singer Travis George eighth on 4.4 per cent, and the 11-year-old musical theatre singer Olivia Lynes ninth on 4.2 per cent.
The Golden Buzzer question
Search interest in Bayoh's name is heavily tied to the Golden Buzzer, the device that sends one act per judge straight through to the live rounds. The results table used for this page records placings and vote shares but does not record which acts received Golden Buzzers in series 16.
This page therefore makes no claim about whether he received one, or from whom. The same applies to the specific aria most often attached to his name online. Neither source in this file names a piece he performed, and inventing one would be exactly the error this record is built to avoid.
What is documented and what is not
Documented by ITV's official vote release and the series results table: his age of 13, his billing as an opera singer, his fourth place in the 2023 final, his 11.3 per cent share, the winner Viggo Venn and the complete order of the eleven finalists.
Not documented in these sources: his date of birth, his home town, his school or choir, the repertoire he sang, whether a Golden Buzzer was involved, whether he has since gained a standalone encyclopedia entry, and anything about him after June 2023. The research record flags that last point as an open question, and it remains open here.
