The semi-final
Series fifteen ran its auditions on ITV from 16 April to 28 May 2022 and its five semi-finals from 30 May to 3 June. Abley performed in the third of them, on 1 June, and took 20.1 percent of the public vote, finishing third on the night.
Third place does not qualify on votes. It puts an act into the judges' vote, held between those immediately behind the public-vote leader, and the panel chose her. David Walliams, Alesha Dixon, Amanda Holden and Simon Cowell were judging; Ant and Dec presented.
The final
The final was broadcast on 5 June 2022 and watched by 7.07 million people, the most-watched programme on ITV that week. Eleven acts performed. The stand-up comedian Axel Blake, 33, won with 19.7 percent; the 13-year-old ventriloquist Jamie Leahey was runner-up on 14.7; the singer Tom Ball took 14.2 and the opera singer Maxwell Thorpe 14.0.
Abley finished fifth with 8.4 percent, a tenth of a point ahead of the rapper and pianist duo Flintz and T4ylor on 8.3. Behind them came the seven-year-old poet Aneeshwar Kunchala on 6.0, the impressionist Ben Nickless on 5.7, the singer Loren Allred on 3.3, the dog act Amber and the Dancing Collies on 3.2 and the dance group 5 Star Boys, aged 10 to 12, on 2.5.
Two comedians in one final
Stand-up rarely wins a variety show. In 2022 it did: Blake took the series with the widest margin of the night, five points clear of the runner-up. Abley, nineteen years younger, was the only other stand-up in the final and finished fifth of eleven.
The distance between those two placings is smaller than it looks. Blake was a working adult comedian with a professional act; Abley was fourteen, and was beaten only by the winner and by three acts immediately above her — a ventriloquist, a pop singer and an opera singer — which finished between 5.6 and 6.3 points ahead. In a format that rewards spectacle, two of the top five acts that year were people talking.
The series that skipped a year
There was no Britain's Got Talent in 2021. Strict government restrictions on television production in the United Kingdom during the pandemic pushed the series back until conditions allowed it, and the show returned in April 2022 after a two-year gap.
That gap shapes the 2022 field. Acts had waited through an extra year to audition, and the final was notably young: Leahey at 13, Abley at 14, Kunchala at 7, the 5 Star Boys at 10 to 12, and Flintz and T4ylor at 22 and 17. Five of the eleven finalists were under eighteen.
What is documented — and what is not
Firm: her age of 14, her act as a stand-up comedian, 20.1 percent and third place in the third semi-final on 1 June 2022, her qualification on the judges' vote, and fifth place of eleven in the final on 5 June with 8.4 percent.
Not documented in the sources gathered here: her home town, her school, her family, the material she performed, how she started in comedy, and anything about her after June 2022. There is no Wikipedia article in her own name; she appears inside the series fifteen tables. The research note behind this record also flags that her nationality is assumed from the show rather than stated in the source.
