The record, precisely stated
Guinness World Records lists the title as youngest person to produce music, male, and dates it to the release of My Journey on 21 February 2015 in El Paso, Texas. His age is given to the day: 12 years and 363 days.
The precision is the point of a Guinness title. Producing is a role with no minimum entry age and no licensing body, so the record depends on a verifiable release date and a verifiable birth date, measured against each other. Two days later, the record would have belonged to a thirteen-year-old.
What producing means here
A producer shapes a record: arrangement, instrumentation, the decisions about what a song sounds like when it is finished. Johnson plays guitar, bass, piano, drums and violin, which is the practical basis for a young producer working largely alone, since a multi-instrumentalist can record most of a track without hiring anyone.
An engineer who worked with him compared him to Prince, according to the material issued at the time. That is a publicist's comparison rather than a critical verdict, and it is repeated here with that label attached.
El Paso, 2015
The record was set from El Paso, Texas, rather than from Los Angeles, Nashville or New York. Home recording is what made that possible: the tools that once required a commercial studio had, by 2015, become software on a laptop, which is the structural reason a twelve-year-old could produce and release an album at all.
A press release in August 2015 announced the Guinness title, six months after the release date that earned it. That gap between the qualifying act and the certification is normal; Guinness verifies after the fact.
How solid the record is
This is a case where the sourcing deserves a warning. The two documents used here are the Guinness World Records entry itself and a press release issued on the record holder's behalf, and there is no independent news report among them.
The Guinness entry is authoritative for the title, the date and the age, because Guinness verifies those before listing them. Everything around it, the comparisons and the descriptions, comes from promotional material and should be read as such. A page that cannot show independent reporting should say so, and this one does.
What is documented and what is not
Documented: the Guinness World Records title for the youngest male music producer; the album My Journey, released on 21 February 2015 in El Paso, Texas, when he was 12 years and 363 days old; and the instruments he plays.
Not documented here: his later releases, any chart placing or sales figure, his current work, and any independent review of the album. The birth year on this page is derived from the age Guinness records at the release date.
