Quarter-final to semi-final
Season twenty ran from 27 May to 24 September 2025. Auditions occupied the first eleven weeks, to 12 August; the quarter-finals ran from 19 August to 10 September; the semi-finals were held on 16 and 17 September and the finale across 23 and 24 September.
The season's records enter Bay Melnick Virgolino as ten years old, from New York, in the singing and music category, as a singer and guitarist, and as a semi-finalist out of the quarter-final rounds. In the semi-final on 17 September, performing sixth on the night, Virgolino was eliminated. That is the whole of the documented run: audition, quarter-final, semi-final, out.
The season around the run
The panel for the twentieth season was Howie Mandel, Sofia Vergara, Simon Cowell and Mel B, with Terry Crews hosting on NBC. Four live golden buzzers were pressed during the quarter-finals: Steve Ray Ladson in the first, Mama Duke in the second, Micah Palace in the third and Team Recycled in the fourth. None went to Virgolino, who reached the semi-finals on results.
The season averaged 4.49 million viewers an episode. Its largest audience, 5.02 million, came on 15 July during the audition run; its smallest, 3.40 million, came on 24 September for a countdown episode. Those are the numbers a ten-year-old was performing into.
Who got to the end
The finale, spread over 23 and 24 September 2025, was won by the singer Jessica Sanchez, 29. The freestyle rapper Chris Turner, 35, finished second and the singer Jourdan Blue, 23, third; the Leo High School Choir and the multimedia group Light Wire were the other acts standing at the end.
None of them was a child. That is the ordinary shape of an America's Got Talent finale: young soloists reach the live rounds in numbers every year and rarely convert them into a final place. Virgolino's semi-final is therefore roughly where the age curve of the show would predict, which makes it typical rather than trivial — a semi-final is still one round from the end of a season assembled from thousands of auditions.
What is documented — and what is not
Firm: the age of ten, the home state of New York, the act as a singer and guitarist, the advance out of the quarter-finals, the semi-final appearance on 17 September 2025 in sixth position on the night, and the elimination there.
Not documented in the sources gathered here: the songs performed, the family, the school, how long Bay has played guitar, whether anyone taught the act, and anything at all after 17 September 2025. There is no Wikipedia article in this name; the entries sit inside the season twenty tables.
Why a season twenty run is hard to follow
The record for a 2025 contestant is thin for a different reason from the older cases. There has not yet been time for anything to happen. A semi-finalist eliminated in the third week of September 2025 has had no interval in which a follow-up career, a record deal or a return appearance could be documented.
What the tables do establish is the competitive position precisely: out of an audition field, through a quarter-final, into a semi-final held two days before the finale began, and out at that point. Anything beyond that — what the family decided next, whether the guitar stays — would be invention. The honest version of this page is the one that stops where the season's paperwork stops.
