Early Career and Education

Born in 1980, Hassan spent two years living in the United Kingdom before returning to Uganda in 2004. Following this period, she relocated to South Africa. It was there that she established her primary business footprint, co-founding Brooklyn City College alongside her late husband, Ivan Semwanga. As the institution's chief executive officer, she has overseen its development into a diverse and progressive educational entity.

Brooklyn City College Operations

The college maintains its headquarters campus in Pretoria. Its infrastructure includes satellite campuses located in Polokwane, Durban, Johannesburg, Nelspruit, Vereeniging, and Rustenburg. Following the death of Ivan Semwanga on 25 May 2017 due to a stroke, Hassan returned to South Africa from his funeral to assume full management of the college and several of his other enterprises.

Beyond her corporate responsibilities, Hassan has maintained a presence in the music industry. She has released songs including Hotter Than Them, Zari the Boss Lady Tolaba, and Oli Wange. She continues to reside in South Africa while maintaining her Ugandan citizenship.

Personal Life

Hassan was married to Ivan Semwanga until their divorce in 2013, a union that produced three children. She also has two children with the Tanzanian artist Diamond Platnumz. In October 2023, she married the Ugandan businessman Shakib Cham Lutaaya.
