Yu Pinqing

Chinese businessman

Yu Pinqing died by firing squad on December 24, 1945, after a special tribunal sentenced him on charges of treason and surrender to the enemy. A businessperson and industrialist based in Zhangjiakou, he navigated the collapse of regional political administrations during the turbulent early twentieth century in China before his arrest by the Eighth Route Army.

Early Career in Zhangjiakou

Born in 1886 in Nangong, Zhili, Yu Pinqing established himself as an industrialist and businessperson in Zhangjiakou. His administrative involvement in local economic affairs began in 1924, when he became an executive member of the chamber of commerce in Zhangjiakou. This role marked his transition from private industry to public institutional participation.

Political Alignments

In August 1937, following the occupation of Zhangjiakou by the Japanese Army, Yu accepted an invitation to serve as a member of the Peace Preservation Council in Chahar. One month later, he was appointed as the Supreme Member of the Southern Chahar Autonomous Government. By November 1937, he joined the Mengjiang United Committee, a body formed following a representative assembly of the Southern Chahar, Northern Shanxi, and Mongolian United League Autonomous governments.

Government Consolidation and Final Years

In September 1939, the three autonomous entities merged into the Mongolian United Autonomous Government, with Yu holding the position of vice-chairman. In 1941, this entity was reformed as the Mongolian Autonomous Federation, where Yu retained his role as vice-chairman. Following the collapse of the federation in August 1945, the Eighth Route Army occupied Zhangjiakou and apprehended him.
