Early Development and Initial Projects
Born Anri du Toit, she was adopted by a clergyman, Reverend Ben du Toit, and his wife. During her youth, she attended boarding school in Pretoria, where she began to find common ground with other artistic peers. Her early professional work included a collaboration with Watkin Tudor Jones on the 2003 project The Constructus Corporation, where she was credited as Anica the Snuffling. Later, she joined the group MaxNormal.TV, portraying a personal assistant under her now-familiar stage name.

The group gained global notice through the internet release of their debut album, $O$, and the music video for Enter the Ninja. Despite a short-lived contract with Interscope Records, the collective prioritized creative autonomy, eventually establishing their own independent label, Zef Recordz, to maintain their specific artistic vision.
Artistic Output and Controversy
Throughout her tenure with Die Antwoord, she released multiple albums, including Ten$ion, Donker Mag, and House of Zef. Beyond music, she appeared in the 2015 Neill Blomkamp film Chappie. In recent years, public focus shifted toward serious allegations made by an adopted son in 2022, concerning abuse and household conditions. Die Antwoord publicly denied these accusations, labelling them as fabrications.
