Born in Yogyakarta in 1970, Basuki started playing tennis at age seven. She turned professional in 1990 and quickly made an impact, winning her first major event at Pattaya in 1991. Her most notable performance at a Grand Slam came at the 1997 Wimbledon championships, where she advanced to the quarterfinals. She recorded victories against high-profile competitors such as Lindsay Davenport, Mary Pierce, and Amélie Mauresmo. Legislative and Institutional Roles
Transitioning from sports to public service, Basuki secured a seat in the Indonesian House of Representatives for the 2014–2019 term. Representing the National Mandate Party, she served on Commission X, which manages education, sports, and history.
